FPE Announces Community Housing Collaborative with Rincon United Methodist Church

Posted by on Feb 3, 2015 in Blog, Featured | 0 comments

Community Housing Collaborative Family Promise is excited to announce a new housing partnership with Rincon United Methodist Church. The Community Housing Collaborative will allow a once homeless family, the opportunity to live in a transitional housing unit after completion of the initial Family Promise program. The transitional housing unit is being provided by Rincon UMC with Family Promise continuing case management services with the family. Families in the CHC will be asked to pay building fees based on income and will continue to look for permanent housing and full time employment. These families will continue to receive life skills, financial management, work readiness, and personal enrichment classes through Family Promise. This collaborative will offer families the ability to practice real world financial and household management. Overall, the program will allow families more time to achieve a sustainable income and financial stability. Currently, 14.1% of households in Effingham have at least one of the following housing problems; overcrowding, high housing costs, lack of kitchen, or lack of plumbing facilities. Due to the lack of affordable housing and the complete nonexistence of transitional housing services, these families are often forced to double up or live in dangerous housing or cars. There is a critical need for transitional housing and support services in our community. Family Promise hopes to expand the Community Housing Collaborative to include other church owned properties as well as privately owned rental units. January Message from the Director…

Posted by on Dec 31, 2014 in Blog, Featured | 0 comments

I hope this newsletter finds you full and happy from a wonderful Christmas holiday! Our families had a great Christmas this year, thanks to the many donations from our community supporters. We currently have three families in the program and are serving a total of eight individuals. As 2014 comes to an end, we are looking forward to all that 2015 holds for Family Promise. It’s during this time of year when many of us develop new year’s resolutions; to lose weight, save money, spend more time with family, etc. The word resolution derives from the Latin word resolutio (resolvere) which means; untying, unfastening, unraveling, solution, solving (of a puzzle). It’s ironic then, that most of our resolutions don’t make it past February and are hardly unraveling solutions”. Typically, resolutions are self centered; meaning a goal we would like to achieve to better ourselves. However, research shows that the best way to increase your life satisfaction and physical, mental, and emotional health is to help others; to be a part of something greater than yourself. So be a part of Family Promise…Make Family Promise your 2015 resolution. Help us find an “unraveling solution” for homelessness in Effingham County. Keep your 2015 resolution by being a part of something greater than yourself; by being a part of Family Promise. Ashley Moore, Executive...
